Kelly Phillips Erb, formerly a managing shareholder, currently serves as Of Counsel to the Erb Law Firm, PC. She has both her JD and LL.M. in Taxation from Temple University School of Law. Her primary practice area is tax law including: tax planning for corporations; domestic and international tax planning; formation and administration of nonprofit and charitable organizations; tax compliance work and tax controversy matters such as delinquencies, offers in compromise and audits.
Kelly graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, NC, before heading to Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. While at law school, Kelly interned at the estates attorney division of the Internal Revenue Service. At the IRS, she participated in the review and audit of federal estate tax returns, even leading in a successful audit.
She authors the popular "Taxgirl" blog for Forbes.com, which has been consistently recognized by the ABA Journal as one of the top blogs written by lawyers: in 2014, the blog was added to the ABA Journal "Blawg 100 Hall of Fame." In addition, Erb has written and has been interviewed about taxes for CNNMoney.com, Reuters, Time and AOL’s WalletPop. She has been tapped for her ability to explain taxes in plain English by numerous media outlets, including National Public Radio’s Marketplace, ABCNews.com, Esquire, CBS Radio, Marketwatch, Inc. and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Kelly has also published Ask the TaxGirl: Everything Parents Should Know About Filing Taxes (Including Child Care Expenses, Medical Costs, and the Earned Income Tax Credit) and Home, Sweet, Rental: Busting the Hype of Homeownership together with Forbes.
In 2012, Kelly received the "40 under 40" award, which recognizes young professionals in the Delaware Valley as determined by the Philadelphia Business Journal. In 2013, she was named as a one of 23 Main Line Today’s “Power Women” which celebrates women making an impact in the region. In 2014, Erb received the inaugural Pennsylvania Bar Association Solo and Small Firm Practice Section Award during the PBA Annual Meeting Awards Luncheon on May 15, 2014, at the Hershey Lodge, Hershey and was recognized as a "Top Tax Attorney" by Suburban Life Magazine.
Kelly is an active member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, where she serves on the Solo and Small Firm Section Council as Treasurer.
Kelly is a member of the bars of Pennsylvania and New Jersey and is licensed to practice in front of the U.S. Tax Court.
Kelly is also a mom to three children, so she can add "dinosaur expert", "cupcake baker" and "princess dress designer" to her resume.
