About Philadelphia - Tourist News
IT MUST BE THE CHEESESTEAKS!!!
While summer is now in full force and we plan our extended weekends to the Shore (which is what locals call the beach), our international friends are apparently planning more and more trips to visit us here in Philadelphia.
According to the latest figures from the Department of Commerce, Philadelphia is the only major US city to show an increase last year in the number of foreign visitors. Numbers for the rest of the nation dropped. While the Department of Commerce did not release any reasons for Philadelphias increase, speculation abounds (at least in this office) that the areas abundance of quality cheesesteaks played a key role.
Funds being spent to attract visitors here are paying off, says Sam Rogers, VP of Tourism for the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau. He also says this is the second year in a row that overseas visitation here has been up, while the national average declined 10 percent.
The goal is for Philadelphia to become one of the top ten international travel destinations. Right now it ranks 13th.
